Best Beauty Trends for Spring 2017

February 22, 2017

It may still be winter, but it’s never too early to think about the warmer months. And with so many designers leaving us speechless during NYFW, there’s never been a better time to take that inspiration and step up our beauty game. Here are a few of my latest and greatest must try trends.

1. Glitter Everywhere

Glitter is and always will be a gal’s best friend. A new trend we’ve been seeing lately is glitter-dusted lips, which can be accomplished by applying your favorite lip color and patting on glitter with your fingertip. The great thing with this is that you can go as subtle or bold as you want, but I promise it’s more wearable than you think.

Another area of our face that’s been getting a lot of attention is our cheekbones! We just can’t seem to get over highlighting our face. I recently purchased the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit. When I bought it, a worker warned me that I may resemble a fairy – but I was quite alright with that and so far, I’m absolutely loving it.

If you want to get a little extra crazy, you can try a method called “glitter strobing,” where you apply a strobing cream, highlighting powder, AND fine glitters for extra impact. It’s usually applied right under your eyes, so you can truly embrace your inner fairy. Just glow for it!

2. Glossed Everything

People have been raving over the glossy eyelid look for months, and the trend is still going strong. However, your eyes aren’t the only part of your face that could benefit from a little shine. You can actually purchase a face gloss, which comes in a clear, non-sticky formula. This can be placed on your cheekbones or collarbones, giving you a youthful gleam all over.

3. Bold Lips

Red and orange were super popular on the runway this season, but if you want to take it to the next level, you can create an ombré effect, adding a shade darker or lighter to the middle of your lips, after completing the edges. Alternatively, you can use a totally separate color on your upper lip than your lower lip, an easier but still interesting effect. If you want to completely step away from the traditional lip, then make them blurred. We all have imperfections, so why not embrace it by spreading the edges of your lips and adding more color to the center of your lips – just using your fingertips.

Here are a few of my current favorite products!

4. Matte Takeover

Just like getting “highlighter happy,” we don’t want to take the matte look too far. You can easily complete a full face of matte makeup for your Instagram, but it would look extremely harsh in daylight. That’s why I like to choose a single feature at a time to focus on. Liquid matte lipstick is something we see everywhere, thanks to Kylie Jenner. To achieve matte lips on your own though, try purchasing a powder lip color. With just a small amount of lip balm, it transforms into a creamy texture for a lightly stained effect. For perfectly matte skin, a matte finishing powder is needed. Simply blend right in to cut down the shine – without the masking. On the eyes, I use one of my favorite products, the famous Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. These matte, neutral shades go with every outfit for the ultimate clean look.

5. Microbladed Brows

We’re all obsessed with filling in our eyebrows, however there’s a new way to obtain the perfect appearance. Microblading is a technique that uses a small hand tool with micro-needles, depositing pigment underneath the first layer of skin. With this, your brows are filled 24/7, lasting up to two years. It might sound great, but it’s not so great for our wallets. A single treatment can cost anywhere between $700 to $1200 – we better start saving up!
