How To Be Sick: Real Girl Version

August 8, 2016

I was going to do a “Get the Look” or review some products for you guys today, but then I woke up with the flu. So that’s going to be today’s topic.

I initially thought, “well, maybe there’s a way to make it seem not so bad, you know? Get out your bath bombs and face masks and what have you, and turn your sick day into a spa day! Great idea, right???? Right??”

But then I snapped right back to reality and accepted the fact that I’m a hot mess and that a blog post like that would be nothing short of a big fat lie. Sick days do not have to be Insta worthy/ Having the flu (btw, who gets the flu in the summer?? Me apparently) is gross. It’s headaches and fevers and congestion and nausea gross. And I am just so not in the mood to take a bubble bath or paint my nails!

This is my truth. I haven’t washed my hair in 6 days, I’ve barely slept all week, I’ve been working my ass off, and it finally caught up to me. I was supposed to do all sorts of fun things today. Hit up the dentist, the gyno, the library, bank, post office, etc. But obviously, I had to take a rain check. So instead, I’m talking to all of you. Now that my Advil’s kicked in and my headaches have lessened from “my brain is going to explode” pain to “I hate this, but it’s not affecting my ability to watch Netflix” pain. You guys know how it is.

So here’s 5 steps on how to be sick minus the frilly lifestyle blogger shit.

  1. Don’t bother showering. If you have a fever, you’ll be sweating all day anyway.

  2. Make no effort to do anything productive, whatsoever. You’re probably sick because you overworked yourself, so cancel all of your plans, and hit the couch.

  3. Drink as much water as humanely possible. *If you’re puking, skip this step or go easy*

  4. Whatever you do, do not wear a bra. SO unnecessary.

  5. Wallow if you must. Being sick sucks, so throw a mini tantrum if you have to. It’s not fair. Life’s not fair. So spend the day being gross and screaming into a pillow. You’ll feel better. I promise. Girl Scouts honor.

So there you have it. How to be sick 101. Don’t slap on some BB cream and run all your errands anyway. Call out of work, cancel your plans, and throw on a big T Shirt, because your ass is staying home today. Well, mine is anyway.

Oh, and before I forget, here’s a list of movies and TV shows that always cheer me up on sick days. So if you’re up for it, check one (or all) of them out!

  1. Moonrise Kingdom

  2. The Heathers

  3. I Love Lucy

  4. Bewitched

  5. The Breakfast Club

  6. Clueless

  7. The Royal Tenenbaums

  8. Mean Girls (Duh)

  9. I Dream Of Jeanie

  10. Sabrina The Teenage Witch

That’s all for today! Life isn't always glamorous in blogger land, but I promise to post some beauty related content soon. Maybe a product review? 5 Summer Faves? I don’t know. I’ll surprise you. Until next time, my friends!

Xoxo,
